4 Burgers

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 cup fresh basil, chopped

  • 2 eggs

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 8 slices bacon

  • 1 large avocado, cut into slices

  • Red onion, thinly sliced for topping

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

  • Avocado oil or ghee for frying


Tips & Substitutions

  • Short on time? Just buy burger patties and fry 'em up.

  1. Add avocado oil to frying pan or skillet on medium high heat. When pan is hot, add the bacon in a single layer with space in between. Cook the bacon until crispy - about 5-10 minutes - flipping once during the process.

  2. If you want to top your burger with sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions then go ahead and cook them in the remaining bacon fat.

  3. In a bowl, combine ground beef, basil, eggs, salt, pepper, and garlic. Use your hands to get in there and make sure everything is well combined.

  4. Form 4 patties from the mixture.

  5. Heat oil in pan over medium-high heat. If you have some bacon fat left over feel free to use it here, otherwise use avocado oil or ghee.

  6. Once pan is hot, add burger patties one at a time with at least an inch of space in between each. If your pan is not big enough you will have to cook your burgers in batches.

  7. Fry until golden brown on the bottom, about 3-5 minutes.

  8. Flip your burgers. They should come off easily. If they do not, wait 15 seconds and try again.

  9. Cook other side until golden brown or until desired doneness. For reference, it generally is about 4 minutes for medium rare but this depends on the thickness of your burger patty - thicker patty, longer cook time.

  10. Once done top your burger with bacon, avocado slices, red onion, and any other toppings you want. Enjoy!
